To strengthen
citizens' capacity
to demand good
governance
The Demand for Good Governance (DFGG) project, funded by the World Bank, is a landmark, four-year good governance project that began in June 2009. The project aims to foster citizen demand for good governance approaches by supporting social accountability and other innovative governance approaches. The non-state actor component (NSAC), a key pillar of DFGG aims to increase the extent and ability of citizens, civil society organizations, and other non-state actors to hold the state accountable and make it responsive to their needs. In turn, DFGG enhances the capacity of the state to become transparent, accountable, and participatory. The project emerges directly from the reform agenda of the RCG that places good governance at the heart of its reform strategies (such as in the Rectangular Strategy 2004-8, the Governance Action Plan, and the Policies Supporting Subnational Government).
Coordinated by the Ministry of Interior (MOI), DFGG is structured to support both state institutions (SIs) and non-state actors (NSAs) in order to develop support for governance reform. The Ministry of Interior plays a lead role in coordination, information-sharing, and partnership promotion across the components of DFGG.
The first pillar of DFGG supports the following state institutions:
